A brown haired woman writer with book covers

Indie Authors Uncovered - Meet the person behind the pages - Meet Serena Beckett - Her Craft is Metaphysical.

Where were you born?

A brown haired woman in front of a massive rock.

I was born in 1982.

Where do you live?

I now live in New York, USA.

Do you have fur babies?

An open laptop with a green tropical bird.

I have a bird who loves to walk across my keyboard -- so if you spot a mistype in my stories, you know who to blame. I have always been a bird owner. I speak to them intuitively and understand them in ways I cannot fully explain. We share the same nature — a deep need for freedom and a song that simply must be sung. My books and decks are my song.

Do you use a pen name?

Yes

What kind of writer are you?

  • Old School Notebook and pen Writer,
  • Contemporary Tech Writer (phone/tablet/voice over),
  • Modern Day Laptop/PC Writer

Name one book you loved as a kid - one you loved as a new adult - and one you love now.

  • As a child: 1984 by George Orwell. It chilled me and showed me something timeless about human nature -- I still see its truth in every era.
  • As a young adult and now: Outwitting the Devil by Napoleon Hill -- genuinely transformative, and worth returning to again and again.
And anything by Ken Wilber. His work on integral psychology will take you to another plane of reality entirely. Alongside him, Thich Nhat Hanh -- whose gentle wisdom on Buddhism, Christianity (he was friends with a Catholic) and spirituality is gently healing in a way few books achieve.

Is there an author you look up to? Or had an influence on your craft?

Honestly, I do not write from literary influence. I write from something closer to transmission. I think of myself less as an author and more as a modern shaman — called to bring people out of hustle culture and back into the present moment, back into themselves. My books arrive through divine creativity rather than craft study. The writers who move me most are Ken Wilber and Thich Nhat Hanh — not for how they write, but for what they know.

How would you describe your craft in one sentence

Metaphysical - using divine Eros, beauty as a path to God, Oneness and transformation to awaken their highest selves.

At The Dreamer's Bookshop, we embrace diversity and advocate for invisible illnesses. How do you feel about those topics? Do you include messages in your writing?

The fact that the Dreamer's Bookshop incorporates these things is why individual contribution matters. I truly believe most people who carry invisible illnesses struggle deeply, and it's a constant battle to advocate for yourself. I myself carry one of these illnesses; I can only do a fraction of what a normal person can do, and I use it as focused determination to create my work. Because I have so little capacity, I must allocate it consciously. I talk about CPTSD in many of my books, and in fact, in my first one, On His Terms, I talk about how the characters co-regulate each other and how they do it to heal. Back in the 18th century, they didn't know about these things, but they were attuned to themselves. Absolutely support this, and absolutely struggle with invisible challenges too. As for diversity, I think that everyone's uniqueness is the key to becoming their greatest version. If you just sit with it, accept and love it wholeheartedly, you can radiate that feeling of love to the world.

Do you have red lines when it comes to writing/reading?

I have a highly sensitive nervous system, so graphic violence, cruelty, and horror are things I neither read nor write. My work can be dark and psychologically complex -- but it is always restrained, always aristocratic, always ultimately rooted in love. Even my most sensual or shadowed scenes exist for one purpose: to wake people up. Sacred Eros, in my world, is always a path toward the Divine.

Was there a review that touched you more than others?

Most of my best reviews actually come from private messages people send me rather than the reviews found anywhere. My favorite came from a reader who discovered me through an esoteric Instagram post I wrote -- one I genuinely thought no one would understand. She bought my books almost immediately and wrote:

I LOVED IT. You are masterful at erotic writing. I could FEEL everything. It was lush and sensual and emotional and mythical.

And about my decks (I actually don't have a place for reviews on my storefront for them, not of my choice). These are my favorites because I'm all about BEAUTY and getting people to FEEL.

I have many decks of cards but none as beautiful as yours.

If someone asked you why you write, what would you answer in one sentence?

Because the scenes arrive and I cannot not write them. I write for the burnt-out professional, the invisible ones, the ones who have lost their sense of aliveness — and I write so that leaders will one day lead with wisdom rather than force. (My wisdom decks and shadow work journals in the Shadow Editions serve this purpose)

Which book are you most proud of and why?

On His Terms is my first — and I love it deeply. But the Shadow Edition of any of my books holds a special place, because it doubles as a mystery school: an esoteric epilogue, a shadow work journal, teachings you will not find anywhere else in the romance genre. My next novel is also very close to my heart. I cried writing it many times. The scenes simply poured through me. I believe it may become my favorite when it's released.

What would you tell an aspiring writer?

Do not let the conventional publishing community or mass market trends define your voice.
Writing communities can be full of cliques and echo chambers -- and work shaped by them tends to reflect that. Your writing is directly proportional to the souls you surround yourself with. Surround yourself with the luminous ones-- on this planet or beyond. Most of all: listen to the whisper of your own soul. If you want to be conventional, follow the crowd. If you want to be revolutionary-- follow yourself.

What's a wish you have for yourself as an author?

That my decks and books find the people who are ready for them — and when they do, awaken them to higher consciousness by feeling and remembering, through sacred sensuality, the beauty and wisdom of self. I hope my work causes millions of humans to rise in consciousness and become their highest selves.

What's a wish you have for yourself as a person?

To be a beneficial presence on the planet-- helping humanity rise in consciousness-- while living my best life.

Do you have a message for your audience

There is more to life than this. As written on the Oracle of Delphi: "KNOW THYSELF." That's the secret of it all.
